I updated my “May Musings” as I figured out how to fix the problem wherein the last half was all taken as a link to Hans’ site. I am still new at this and am learning html as I have time. I apologise for any confusion it may have caused some.

Liberal Fascism

Today, I am going to depart from previous patterns of posting. I am going to review a book, Liberal Fascism by name, authored by Jonah Goldberg.

First, let me say, I could hardly put it down. It is not boring in the least. Second. I will add that it is a most ambitious work as it is very comprehensive and annotated. That aside, I must say I learned more about how things got to where they are today in the Western democracies (?), from this book, than any other source.

It seems that the old adage about “once you open Pandora’s box ..” is one salient truth this book shows. First example: Jean Jacques Rousseau and his “Social Contract”.  His works laid the basis for the French Revolution, in which the Jacobins formed the first fascist government, and immediately suppressed dissenting voices, killing tens of thousands of their countrymen. Next up, Woodrow Wilson. I confess I only had vague knowledge of him, until I read this book.

By the time Wilson came to power, he had not only the progressive working-out of Rousseau’s philosophy over time to imbibe from, but he also had Hegel, Marx, Darwin, Georges Sorel and Margaret Sanger to name a few.

I cannot at this point cover every point raised in the book, but I will say that this progressivist stew, made up of statism, eugenics, socialsim of various stripes, atheism, power lust, utopianism (more like dystopianism), and basically, rebellion against all norms that had preceded most of these “isms” has got us to the point today that statism is viral and individual rights and liberties are fast vanishing. Like Mark Steyn’s new book “Lights Out” says, lights in the “free” west, and democracy also, are fast being extinguished. I thought as I read it, that it was one of the most masterful strategies the enemy of mankind has ever come up with and it has been unfortunately very successful.

Steve Milloy, in his new book “Green Hell”, which I have just started, is already showing how, as my friend Hans once told me, “socialism” or “collectivism” never really died, it mutated from red and pink to green.Confirmation of Milloy’s first chapter was on our news (CTV) today – the head of Ontario Hydro was talking about “smart meters / controls”. One sentence stuck out to me, and that was, “people will restructure their lives to comply with the Green Mandate, in such matters ,as for instance, eating dinner (supper). They will find that it will be much more affordable for them to have that meal after 9pm”. I took the liberty of paraphrasing him. I couldn’t help but think of the impact all these strategies are going to have on our economies, jobs, etc. Again, as I am sure both Steve and Jonah will agree, “those who don’t learn from history will be doomed to repeat it:.

With Obama being POTUS, and so pro-Green, it won’t be long before USA will be sliding down the path too. Of course, these activists, progressivist, etc, all seem to agree that one effect of all the changes that will have to come, is reduction of the world’s population. Depending on whose numbers you go by, they say anywhere from 80- 95% Of course, they will do the choosing and they and theirs will be chosen to live. Be very scared. Start praying.

May musings 1

The more I learn about the prevalent disease called Progressivism, the more I want to scream at all the zombies that populate the West today, who not only are oblivious, but don’t want to know. A great primer, and encapsulator of the whole ‘disease” of Progressivism, is Jonah Goldberg’s “Liberal Fascism”. It covers the whole gamut from origin to present day, in all the different manifestations that it has and is, incorporated into. I thought I had enough knowledge of Rousseau, and Hegel, as I have studied them in depth. I also studied, Marx and Darwin. What I hadn’t realised is how their ideas, were incoroporated into a movement of “progressives” who are also elitists in that they think only they have the proper intelligence and knowledge to “run everything” and decide for the rest, (whom they consider unworthy of free thought and decision making powers), what they can think, do, and say. One of the more modern manifestations of course is the whole “Green Shift” types, whom I have seen referred to as “Gang Green” – an apt play on words.
A friend of mine, who has a web/rant site at Hans’ Site, said something which I will take the liberty of paraphrasing here:
Progressivism is the end of the line for anyone who truly believes that most people are born to serve as currency in the transactions of people holding political power.
That about sums it up perfectly. We are viewed as currency to be manipulated by those who desire or hold political power. They have lost sight of our equality as the US Constitiution phrased it, that we are all created equal and of equal worth therefore, in God’s sight. He doesn’t seek to impose Himself or His will upon the human race, because He gave them as Devo sang, “Freedom of Choice”.
Thus, no other institution, or government, or group of persons of any kind, has the right to determine for you or for me, how we conduct our lives, what decisions we make, and what to think, say or do.
It matters not whether you subscribe to belief vis a vis God, it doesn’t alter the truths stated above.
Thus I can find common ground to work with Libertarians, for instance, because I truly believe in Liberty. I also believe in the responsible use of that Liberty, and thus cannot sanction liberty being abused to destructive purposes. Thankfully, most of you would agree. If you choose to be a relativist, or Darwinist, or whatever, and thus decide you see nothing wrong with murder, or theft, for instance, you don’t have the liberty to commit it because others have the right to life, liberty, owning of their own property, etc. You don’t have the right to violate those.
I will add more in the coming days as I can.
